After the first dengue death of the season was reported from the city on Tuesday, panic has spread among the residents. The cases are being reported not only from middle-class areas, but also from posh localities.

LUDHIANA: After the first dengue death of the season was reported from the city on Tuesday, panic has spread among the residents. The cases are being reported not only from middle-class areas, but also from posh localities.
Its victim, Shailendra Kumar, 22, was a resident of Sherpur Chowk and a Sarabha Nagar resident has tested positive for it. Not relying on the municipal corporation and health department, residents have taken up things in their hands.

Nirmal Kaur, 58, a resident of Sarabha Nagar block I, said, "earlier, we were least bothered about stagnant water in our house as well as on the street. But the dengue casuality has been a wake-up call for all of us. We will see to it that cleanliness is maintained, as a person from our area, too, has tested positive for the fever."
Rimpy Sra, 30, a resident of Model Town, said, "Now, we will be more cautious. Hygienic conditions are essential at home and around, as even small amount of stagnant water can provide a breeding ground to mosquitoes." Surinder Singh, a resident of Sherpur Chowk, said, "We cannot rely on the authorities alone. Residents will have to join hands to check the spread of dengue by keeping not only their places clean, but also their surroundings."
